This page documents the events of the Japanese U-17 Representative Selection Camp. The camp started in November[1].

Day 1

For the first time in the camp's history, middle schoolers are invited.[2] One of the objectives of adding middle schoolers to the camp was to mess with the pride of the high schoolers.[3]

Invited Middle Schoolers
Tezuka Kunimitsu Ooishi Shuuichirou Kikumaru Eiji Inui Sadaharu
Fuji Shuusuke Kawamura Takashi Kaidou Kaoru Momoshiro Takeshi
Yukimura Seiichi Sanada Genichirou Yanagi Renji Kirihara Akaya

Minami Kentarou Higashikata Masami Sengoku Kiyosumi Akutsu Jin
Amane Hikaru Kurobane Harukaze Mizuki Hajime Fuji Yuuta
Tachibana Kippei Kamio Akira Ibu Shinji Echizen Ryouma

At the gate, Hirari and Tenjin challenge the members of Seigaku to knock down ball cans in order to pass. Kurobe criticizes them for this.[3]

With the 1st string in North Korea, including the middle schoolers, the camp has 296 members total. In order to weed out weak players, the coaches set up a ball minigame. All middle schoolers pass, however, almost half the high schoolers are eliminated. Unsatisfied with the outcome, they challenge the middle schoolers in order to remain in the camp.

Middle Schooler vs. High Schoolers[5]
S Ryouma vs. Matsudaira W - ?
S Sanada vs. Sasabe W - ?

Kurobe criticizes Matsudaira for underestimating Ryoma. As far as the battle for the balls is concerned, the results were more or less as expected. However, Kurobe notes that it was surprising how the high schoolers from the top courts intimidated the middle schoolers so much without even playing and that it will be interesting to see how their interactions develop[3].

Day 2

Shuffle Match[6]
S Oni vs. Momoshiro 6 - 0

Saitou comments that Oni outperformed Momoshiro in all areas and the middle schoolers are shaken because of that. At the same time, Momoshiro started igniting Oni's heart. Both developments are according to plan.[3]

The middle schoolers are instructed to form pairs. Against their expectations, the players of each pair must face each other in singles matches. The losers have to leave the camp. The purpose of these matches is to increase the players' mental strength[3]. Details for these matches can be found here. All matches are played as tiebreakers.

Pair Matches[8]
S Tokugawa vs. Ryouma W - ?
S Oni vs. Tooyama W - ?

Mifune describes Ryoma and Tooyama as two idiots who can't help challenging any strong opponent they come across. He goes on to say that there is meaning in strengthening idiots like them though and that it'll be interesting to see whether they're going to make it to the top or break along the way.[3]

After the pair matches, the remaining members are integrated into the camp, take part in [[Tsuuge Ryuuji|Tsuuge]'s circle training and all start to participate in shuffle matches.
