Higuma Otoshi is a backhand lob with a slice spin. It is one of the Triple Counters.

A counter against smashes. Facing their own baseline, the user receives the opponent's smash before it hits the ground. Utilizing the centripetal force of the body, the user negates the smash's power[1] before returning the ball as a high lob.

Variations

Kirin Otoshi: The evolved version of Higuma Otoshi. Instead of using only one hand to return the incoming smash, the user returns the ball with a double-handed backhand. This results in increased stability. Furthermore, the return is a topspin lob instead of a slice lob, making it faster.
